Perhaps we can make the dead fox run again! Since I last posted... perhaps now years ago, many new things have happened.
This is my second week living in London, England where it's reliably dreary and rainy. The city is a tangle of streets that change names without notification and weave into each other without warning. I can't count how many times I've gone in the opposite direction thinking I was certainly going the right way. The practice of losing one's way can be very enjoyable if one doesn't have a specific destination. But such is certainly not the case for me. You see, I've started my PhD. It's a fairly risky undertaking because if I don't succeed in getting additional funding next year, my degree might reach its premature conclusion this summer. In the mean time I'm trying to make it to class on time, find grocery stores, cheap shops, banks, etc. etc. etc.. All the little minor details that sometimes become frustratingly impossible because of the city's opacity.
If I do manage to get more funding, I will eventually wind up with a degree in Humanities and Cultural Studies--an interdiscplinary degree run by Birkbeck College, Tate, Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Science Museum and the Architectural Assocation. The wonderful part of this program is that I'll have the privilege of working with some very powerful and amazing institutions. The downside is that I'll have the challenge of working with institutions that work to canonize sooner than necessarily challenge or subvert. There's always a staidness to monolithic government subsidized culture. Right now I have no clue what I'll be doing within any of those places but I think that will sort itself out.
Oh and what else. My mom got married, I now like dogs (I used to be rather afraid of them except for carpet dog), I still can't drive and I will be in Poland over Christmas so if there's something you want--like moonshine and pickles--let me know!

Don't bring back any Polish pudding. Blech.
Oh you are such a downer! I think you made it all wrong. It wasn't supposed to be runny.
Polka sticks! ... and some WW2 era military boots. size 11. One of them leather trenchcoats would be nice too.
Eh Polish pickles, that can be bought in Calgary. Like it was bought for your show here.
